HPV vaccine

I'm really surprised that people haven't mentioned that the HPV vaccine, in addition to, you know, SAVING WOMEN'S LIVES, would also be good for babies (since most of the wackos opposed to the cancer vaccine don't care about women but do care about little white babies). A friend of mine had a preemie (born at 29 weeks). They determined the problem was an incompetent cervix due to a LEEP procedure. You only have LEEPs (or cone biopsies) done because you've had an abnormal, and most likely precancerous, result on a PAP smear. And what would cause that result? If you guessed HPV infection, you'd be right. (I assume a high percentage of precancerous lesions on the cervix are due to HPV, since almost all cervical cancer is due to HPV, but I've never seen anyone do this analysis).

My point: I'd guess that if my friend had had the HPV vaccine when she was 13, she'd never have had the LEEP, so she wouldn't have had an incompetent cervix, so her first baby wouldn't have been born at 29 weeks, and she wouldn't have needed to be on bed rest for two months with her second (even with a cerclage).

Another minor point: the vaccine costs $360. One week's NICU hospital bill is about $15,000.
Preemies normally stay in the NICU until about their original due date (which is, needless to say, an extreme strain on the parents in every way imaginable). Luckily, this child hasn't had any lasting disabilities (though she may have asthma and she needed physical therapy as a baby) but many preemies aren't that lucky.
