What the hell is wrong with people?
A friend of mine (who lives on my block) had a party tonight. Since it's cold and another friend was tired, I offered to give her a ride home since my car was so close. As I went out my driveway, I noticed a guy laying on the hood of a car. I saw him stir so, rather than stopping, I decided to go ahead and take my friend home. When I came back (about 5 minutes later), the guy was still there, so I decided to call the police - I couldn't imagine that a guy would lay on the hood of a car when it was 40 degrees outside unless there was something wrong. As I was talking to the 911 dispatcher, I was walking down my driveway to check on the guy and there were people taking pictures of him on their camera phones. Did they bother to call for help? No, of course not - they just decided to take some "funny" pictures. They left, and I tried to rouse the guy while I was waiting for the police and paramedics to arrive. I couldn't get him to wake up. Some people in a house across the street were out drinking on their porch and saw what was going on. What did the do? Why, they took pictures of him and heckled him, of course. What is wrong with people?! a) some dude was practically passed-out drunk, b) by himself, c) on the hood of a car, d) when it was cold outside and a freeze was expected, and e) people stopped to gawk but not to render aid. Disgusting.
(The paramedics managed to rouse him, but he was incoherent - they asked him where he lived and he responded 7am. He was a big guy, so they had trouble getting him up, off the car, and into the ambulance. I think they called in another cop to help get him up and to detox (I assume). I went inside once the paramedics and cop arrived and seemed to have it under control, but I kind of checked the progress through my window).
