Allies

I often see people with rainbow or equality stickers that say ALLY across them, and I'm not sure how I feel about them. Here's why: these allies are still "othering" homosexuals, essentially saying "I support them, but don't think I'm one of them." I can understand not wanting to give people the "wrong" idea, but if you truly have no problem with homosexuals, why feel compelled to point out that you aren't one? The only reasons I can think of boil down to fear. What do y'all think? Does this post even make sense?

I feel misled

About a lot of things. But today, it's something trivial: pimples. As a teen, I always assumed that by the time I was in my mid- to late-20s, I would almost always have clear skin. Reality is different. I've never really had to deal with acne, but I almost always have at least one pimple (or healing pimple), and I'm tired of it. I'm not 15, and I haven't been for well over a decade, so why won't they just GO AWAY?

Documentary weekend

I'm currently watching my second documentary of the weekend - Flock of Dodos. I watched Who Killed the Electric Car? yesterday. Am I an over-educated scientific-minded liberal, or what? People who refuse to believe/ understand evolution make me sick to my stomach and, to me, represent a lot of what's wrong with America: under-educated people with no curiosity. Basically: sheep. The Electric Car doc just made me sad, and further convinced me that my next car will be chosen based on gas mileage. I don't trust car companies, and I sure as hell don't trust oil companies. The documentary was pretty sad, especially when you change the view point and consider that the EV-1 enthusiasts would just be viewed as paranoid crazies. But just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not after you.

Ugh

I spent a lot of time outside last weekend, and my face was broken out this week. I'm convinced that spending a lot of time outside causes my face to do it - maybe something to do with the fact I'm allergic to practically everything. I wonder if there's any science to back this up.

shoes

The Washington Post had an article today on footwear, specifically how bad heeled shoes are, and the higher the heel, the worse they are for you. Within the past few months I've bought 2 pairs of Earth shoes, which actually have a negative heel - the heel is below the toe, and I can definitely tell the difference when I have to be on my feet for very long. Its too bad I missed the online discussion with the podiatrist, since I would have asked what they think about those. But, if you're looking for some new, comfortable shoes, I definitely recommend them.

I was driving home from the grocery store this Sunday and heard a phone ad targeted toward those on government assistance. It was advertising a reduced-fee service. It really made me think - the basic plan is about $15/ mo, so how much of a discount are they giving? And what percentage of people in the state don't have phone service because they can't afford it?
