I'm watching the National Spelling Bee. One of the kids got the word "numnah." He misheard it and asked, "Numbnut?" How would you like to have asked that on national tv?

UPDATE: Considering he just won it all, I don't think he's going to lose any sleep over this.

An RQ PSA

If you decide to go off the pill because you want to get pregnant, please use condoms for the first 1-2 months unless you're totally fine with getting pregnant your first cycle. You may say "What are the chances this will happen to me?" but I now know at least two women who have had this happen. What's more, the first woman ended up with a preemie, and this second one is pregnant with twins* (probably because of the hormonal irregularities caused by going off the pill). So, please, don't taunt Fate.

* I warned this friend, but, alas, it was too late. She was already pregnant by the time she had mentioned going off the pill to me. And, don't get me wrong, she's excited. But if you want to make sure you have a little extra time, toss on a jimmy cap.

Grilling Weather

Now that we're halfway into May, it finally feels like spring is springing, so I see more and more people out grilling. (Or, as they call it here, barbecuing - an insult to the very name of barbecue, I think.) It just makes me sad that grilling weather doesn't fully arrive until mid-May here, and it only lasts a few months.

Product Plugs

Some products I'm loving right now:
- My new thermal curtains from Penney's. $12/ panel and they block the light. Woot!
- Hue's hidden cotton (shoe) liners. They come in two sizes and actually stay hidden under my mary janes!
- Dobie sponges and cat dancers. Kitty gives both an A++!
- Renter's/ home owner's insurance. If you don't have it, do not pass go, do not collect $200. It's cheap (mine is like $70/ year) and *so* worth it. A friend had a grease fire in her kitchen. In addition to having to buy new living and dining room stuff, in our state, she could be liable for the damage to the kitchen (+ smoke and water damage).

Pillow shams

So I finally found a comforter that I like (I've been looking for one on and off for a few years), but I'm not enthralled with the coordinating shams. And I want to add another color. So I've found an accent pillow and rug, and even some pictures, but I cannot find pillow shams in the accent color. Argh! I guess it could be worse - I won't put the duvet on until kitty can manage not to vomit for a while, so I still have plenty of time to find something.
